LTlov Partners with Dream A Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship Ranch
A boy and a horse and a Circle are hard at work this summer at Dream a Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship Ranch in Leander, TX. Scott Tuley, a student at Hudson Bend Middle School, is severely vision impaired, but that doesn’t mean he can’t saddle up and ride his new friend ‘Tara’ every week during summer break, thanks to a scholarship opportunity provided by LTlov, a local women’s giving circle.
New to the philanthropic scene, Lake Travis Labor of Love, LTlov for short, hopes to make a long-term, positive impact on our community. Founded in October 2007, LTlov works to raise money and distribute contributions to projects that improve life by empowering women and their families in the greater Lake Travis area. LTlov funds projects and organizations through individual member donations and by sponsoring fundraising events. Following a year of organizational structuring, legal validation and membership alliance, the ladies of LTlov went to work. Since December 2008, beginning with a Christmas Open House, the corporation collected toys for Operation Green Santa, pajamas for the Austin Children’s Shelter on behalf of Peaceful Dreams, groceries to fill the shelves of the Lake Travis Crisis Ministries and donated a gift basket valued at $500.00 to the local chapter of the Boys Scouts’ spring fundraising event. Additionally members invested over $6000.00 back into the community through funding to The Lake Travis High School Sunshine Committee, The Lake Travis Crisis Ministries, The Lake Travis Ladies of Charity, and Dream a Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship.
While Scotty dreams of riding in the equestrian events of the Special Olympics, the members of LTlov dream of improving the lives of disadvantaged Lake Travis area residents. For women who share that dream, LTlov might be just the vehicle to make a difference. A membership event is scheduled for late September for anyone who would like to learn more.
